PowerMate on steroids

If you’re a Mac user who made it far enough through the web to find this page, you probably have heard of the Griffin PowerMate - an giant metal dial with a USB plug and the mandatory blue LED (no new device can be released in the 21st century and not have a blue LED).

Now, where the PowerMate is just a single dial (and one button), the Space Navigator is a knob that you can move in six degrees of freedom: you can push it in x/y/z directions and you can rotate it in xyz.

As for OS X support - 3dconnexion doesn’t list any Mac OS X support. But being an ordinary USB HID device, it’s very simple to use it from OS X - be it as MIDI controller, camera control for 3d apps or for an image viewer.
